I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who gave
up time from their Labor Day weekend to help gather signatures at the
Orange Street Fair.
In addition to those from South County, we had volunteers from
Placentia, Garden Grove, Fullerton, Anaheim, Brea, Orange, Tustin,
Santa
Ana and Silverado Canyon. We even had a paid petition gatherer,
collecting signatures on a different initiative, stop her activity
in
order to help us with ours - for free!
In particular, I would like to thank our Headquarters Director Marion
Pack for all her hard work and driving the van which transported many
of
the volunteers on Friday and Saturday. Carl Schultess is owed a debt
of
gratitude for driving the van on Sunday.
Our goal going in was to gather 3,000 signatures. In spite of efforts
by
event organizers to shut down our signature gathering activity, we
were
successful in gathering over 4,000 signatures!
Sunday was clearly the most fruitful day for signature gathering as
we
gathered more signatures than Friday and Saturday combined. At times,
the crowd around our booth waiting to sign our petition was 3 persons
deep. This clearly dismayed LRA Director Gary Simon who was working
three booths away at the "Just the Facts?" booth. They had very light
traffic and spent most of their time observing the high level activity
at our booth.
Many of the people visiting the "Just the Facts?" booth expressed their
displeasure with the County's El Toro Airport plan. Gary Simon,
incorrectly assuming they were all agents planted by our organization
to
undermine their efforts, called Fair security to have us shut down.
Once
again we prevailed.
The response we received from the public was extremely positive and
encouraging. "Sam Adams" graciously provides photos of our efforts
Friday and Saturday which can be viewed at:

Once again, I would like to thank the many diligent volunteers who
helped make this event an overwhelming success!
Gratefully yours,
Sergio Prince
