ETRPA RESOLUTION NO. 2000-07
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
OF THE EL TORO REUSE PLANNING AUTHORITY
RECOMMENDING THAT ALTERNATIVES
FOR EXPANDING JOHN WAYNE AIRPORT
BE ELIMINATED FROM CONSIDERATION
BY THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
WHEREAS, Orange County Environmental Impact Report 573 outlines two alternatives for the expansion of John Wayne Airport; and
WHEREAS, John Wayne Airport is situated in the middle of a highly urbanized area which is not compatible with a larger airport; and
WHEREAS, Orange County does not need an expanded John Wayne Airport; and
WHEREAS, commercial airports should not be built in urban areas without a broad community consensus that they are needed and properly planned; and
WHEREAS, there is no community consensus that a huge expansion of John Wayne Airport is necessary or appropriate; and
WHEREAS, these alternatives do not represent real plans for expansion of John Wayne Airport;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority Board of Directors calls upon the Board of Supervisors to formally terminate any further consideration of alternatives for the expansion of John Wayne Airport; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the El Toro Reuse Planning Authority and its member communities and organizations will join hands with the communities around John Wayne Airport to oppose expansion of John Wayne Airport and promote community friendly solutions for Orange County’s transportation needs.
