The following data is from a study conducted at LAX by Los Angeles World Airports in the summer and fall of 2006. 27,949 interviews were conducted. Click here for the final report released in March 2008 with a December 2007 publication date.

The 66 % of total passengers recorded as O&D in the area are broken down by county in the following chart.
TYPE OF PASSENGER - 2006 PERCENT -2006 2006 MAP (2) Originating passengers (1) 66 % 40.3 Passengers connecting through LAX or changing planes 34 % 20.7
Total 100 % 61.0 (1) The term, O&D - Origin and Destination passengers, is commonly used to identify those whose trip originated or ended at a residence, hotel or business in the area. This does not include "Connecting" passengers who get off one plane and onto another without leaving the airport, or "Transit" passengers whose plane lands and then takes off enroute to another city. In the surveys, passengers arriving at the airport were asked for and classified by their point of "Origin".
(2) The percentages in the second column are applied here to the actual volume of air travel at LAX in 2006.
