The largest signature gathering drive in Orange County history will reach its successful conclusion on Tuesday, August 31 at 1:00 PM. Volunteers from Citizens for Safe and Healthy Communities will turn in an estimated 180,000 signatures to the Registrar of Voters.

Many of the over 5,000 volunteers who worked on the campaign will be there, with banners, flags, music, and their families, to celebrate this achievement. Approximately 71,000 valid signatures are required to qualify the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative for the March 7, 2000 ballot. More than twice that number have been collected from throughout the county.

Speakers at the event include Supervisors Tom Wilson and Todd Spitzer, City of Orange Councilman Mike Alvarez, and community members. The initiative, when passed, gives Orange County voters a choice on where airports, large jails, and toxic dumps are located.

The Registrar's office is at 1300 S. Grand, Bldg. C at the corner of Grand and McFadden. Everyone is welcome. Bring the family and your American flag.
