What's New - Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Citizens for Safe and Healthy Communities - YES on Measure F January 27, 2000 Contact: Leonard Kranser, CSHC Communications Director 949-499-5567 Or Jeff Metzger, CSHC Chairman 949-454-1196 LATEST POLLS FINDS MEASURE F WINNING, AIRPORT SINKING The latest polling results on Measure F show continued strong support for the voters' rights initiative which is on the March 7 Orange County ballot. Citizens for Safe and Healthy Communities released results of a poll conducted January 5-10 which found that voters supported the initiative by 56% to 36%, even after being told all the known arguments against the initiative. The results reinforce a November poll conducted by Cal State University, Fullerton in conjunction with the Orange County Business Council. That poll, though conducted differently, found the initiative winning by 54% to 25%. In the latest poll, Decision Research, a nationally recognized polling firm based in Washington, DC interviewed a scientifically constructed sample of 500 likely voters. The poll also found that support for a commercial airport at El Toro continues to decline countywide, with 51% of respondents now opposed to an airport and only 39% in favor. Jim Davy, Volunteer Coordinator for Citizens for Safe and Healthy Communities - Yes on Measure F said, "County politicians and their special-interest supporters are preparing to spend huge sums to try to defeat Measure F. However, we know that the people of Orange County are strongly behind Measure F's message of giving voters a choice. We collected a record 192,000 signatures with volunteers and we are funding our campaign the same grass-roots way." Measure F, the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative gives voters a choice on the building of new or expanded airports, large jails in residential areas, or hazardous landfills. It will protect residents near John Wayne from airport expansion, as well as those who live under the possible flight paths of El Toro. A Yes on Measure F will reform the planning process in Orange County by mandating that the environmental impacts, costs, and alternatives to these major harmful projects must be made public and then must be submitted to the voters for approval.
