logo   How much do/will they fly?

The website analyzes the air travel in the Southern California Association of Governments region during 2003, by county of origin and destination
and compares the findings to SCAG's Regional Transportation Plan forecasts for 2030.

Population data is included along with calculations of a statistic, per capita flights.
Roughly half of the passenger trips in 2003 were by visitors to the region. Per capita flights therefore will be greater in counties with more business and vacation visitors.

(1)  Actual 2003 total data broken down by county per this website's analysis.

(2)  Passenger trips (MAP) divided by population. Note that the definition of O&D passengers (see below) includes visitors. Therefore, this statistic is for comparative purposes only and does not indicate how many trips each resident makes.

(3) 2030projections are from the 2004 SCAG Regional Transportation Plan with Maglev.
County breakdown estimate is provided by SCAG from the  SCAG RTP model.

(4) Riverside County estimate of passengers  in 2003, and the Riverside/San Bernardino split, is greatly influenced by the correctness of an informal estimate of passenger origins and destinations provided by Palm Springs Airport.

MAP: Million Annual Passengers

Origin and Destination Passengers: By industry definition, are those whose trips begin or end in a residence, hotel or business within the designated county. Roughly half of the region's O&D passengers are non-resident visitors to Southern California. (For example, passenger surveys show 61 percent visitors at John Wayne, 40 percent at Ontario)
