WE GOT E-MAIL TODAY! (June 4, 1999)
The following were some of the stack of e-mails (and phone calls) waiting following the second 747 overflight of Leisure World.  It will take a while to answer everyone but we will pass this compilation of comments to our supervisors and the media.  From the messages, it is obvious that many of you did not get adequate response when you called the county.

Subject: Phone number for noise complaints Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 13:38:40 -0700  To: "'Homepage@eltoroairport.org'"

I called the 949-252-5185 number that registers noise complaints to find out their proceedures for tallying complaints. They told me that they won't take complaints for El Toro and said to call 714-834-3000 (County - El Toro number).  I don't trust the County of Orange to register my complaint.  Now what ?

That 747 was way too loud and way too low.  You may be able to fly over Laguna Woods where the hearing level has degenerated, but flying over Aliso Viejo with that aircraft and that altitude is absurd. No airport at El Toro!!!!!!!!

Subject: There here Date: Fri, 04 Jun 1999 16:22:03 -0700 To: Homepage@eltoroairport.org,

Its 4:01 PM on Friday and a 747 just flew by my house.  I measured the noise from my driveway at 82 decibels.  The possibility of this happening 825 times per day is frightening.

Leonard Kranser,

I just heard 2 of the fights go over my home. It was awful. I tried to complain. Their office is "closed for the day". They must've closed EARLY for some reason. I tried to leave a voice mail. The box is "full". I tried calling the alternate number at JWA. They referred me back to the full voice mail box at the Master Planning Program. They also referred me to www.eltorofacts.org. I went there. There is no way to email them. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO TALLY THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. They are obviously doing what ever they can to AVOID and minimize them. I am so angry I can spit. I am sick of dealing with these slimy scumbags. They are out to get rich, and are willing to destroy lives to do it.

Subject: stop the airport Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 19:50:35 EDT To: Homepage@eltoroairport.org,

Hi, I am a seventeen year old student who attends Aliso Niguel High School.  I write today to complain on behalf of myself and fellow students at ANHS.  We do not want planes flying over our heads.

After a long period of class, we enjoy the opportunity to eat our snack and our lunches outside underneath the beautiful blue sky.  To be able to socialize and talk about the past weekend events.  But recently, when trying to enjoy this time, we were shocked to discover a noisy, polluting, ugly looking 747 flying over our heads.

Upon returning home I was trying to enjoy my relaxation time after school.  Usually I take a peaceful nap, to reenergize myself, but on two separate occasions (6:10 and 6:40), I was awaken to a horrible noise of a 747.  I learned that if an airport does come in, that these will happen every ten minutes or so, or even more often.  Excuse me but where does your pitiful organization get the right to make my life miserable for your benefit.  The economy in Orange County is fine and we do not it to "grow" as you call it.

As the future of Orange County, I would like to say, once this airport goes in (if it ever does) I am moving away, along with all of my schoolmates, and taking our business, community and political support elsewhere in this state of country.  I will not live in a county that puts an airport, directly over the heads, of countless children at the following schools: -Oak Grove Elementary -Aliso Niguel High School -Foxburogh Elementary -Aliso Viejo Middle School Subject: ---------------------------------------------------------
TESTING DELAYED Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 17:01:45 -0700  To: <Homepage@eltoroairport.org>,

I don't understand why the 747 test was postponed this morning.  Do the advocates in favor of the airport expect that weather conditions will always be ideal? As a twenty-plus year resident of Mission Viejo, I believe this morning's weather was rather typical ----a classic June gloom day. Do you think someone knew that cloud coverage can accentuate the noise? Also, early last night I landed at JWA.  While on the final approach ET's main N-S runway was visible off to the left of the aircraft.  I visualized a fully-loaded 747 heading right at the Reno Air M80 I was in. I wondered how the take off and landing patterns for ET would impact nearby airports patterns. It seems to me that there could be a major conflict.

This is to let you know that the noise today has been so bad that we couldn't even hear ourselves talk while dining at the El Niguel golf course.  As I type this email there is a plane over head and I'm almost next to the Ritz Carlton, Laguna Niguel.

Lets get serious and think of a better idea than an airport.

Subject: Noise from June 4th Test Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 20:52:55 EDT  To: Homepage@eltoroairport.org,

The noise test was a success. I was greatly disturbed by the noise, both indoors and outdoors - specifically the 5:35 PM June 4th take-off going North.

I plan to write the Supervisors.

We live in Aliso Viejo, supposedly outside the "noise footprint", and the noise from the test flights is frightening.  We haven't been actively involved in opposing the airport until now, but that is going to change. The audacity of these people in imposing this on our community is astounding.

I thought these tests were going to be quiet because the Council members wanted us in South County to say it wasn't so bad, however they really are very noisy and these planes aren't even fully loaded! We need to do everything possible to stop this airport plan in it's tracks. Yours truly, Bruce XXXXX, 24131 XXXXXX, Mission Viejo, Ca. 92691 (

At 7:25 we were definitely impacted by the noise off runway 7.  We live near the lake in Mission Viejo and do not want that going on all day every day.

Subject: Noise Complaint Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 22:34:28 EDT To: Homepage@eltoroairport.org,

I have tried to call both 714 834-3000 and 949 252-5185 and both are not accepting messages.  I live at 214xxxxx Drive, Lake Forest 92630, just off Lake Forest Drive.  At 7:20 pm on Friday, June 4, a plane took off towards Saddleback.  It was extremely noisy, unacceptable to have on a regular basis.  It was much more than a "nuisance", even if only a few times per day.  On a regular schedule, it would make Lake Forest and surrounding communities undesirable to live.

Please contact me with any questions Thank You.

Subject: Coto de Caza Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 22:39:50 EDT  To: Homepage@eltoroairport.org,

I just had a plane fly over my house at 7:30.  The noise level and quality of life that you are going to create is totally unacceptable.  The level of the plane unloaded was extremely low.  I can just imagine what is going to happen to my home and the value of that home when they are flying on a regular basis.  Please do not ruin the quality of life that we worked so hard for.  What is all for?

Please think twice before making this commitment.
Thank You

Subject: Loud planes Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 20:01:46 -0700 To: <Homepage@eltoroairport.org>,

At 7:08 pm on 6/4/99, the airplane noise drowned out the sound of my next door neighbor who was mowing his lawn.  Such neighborhood disturbances (airplanes, not lawn mowers) are simply not acceptable.
