New Project 99 CD picks up where the county left off
Project 99 has developed an outstanding alternative to the Countys "Noise Demonstration," which is scheduled to take place on June 4 and 5 at MCAS El Toro. At a cost of $1.3 million, three of the Countys pro-airport Supervisors approved several dozen overflightsa scientifically worthless comparison to the 24-hour noise of 824 landings and takeoffs. Our new "Take the Test" compact disc is far superior to the Countys demonstration. Instead of a bogus publicity stunt, our CD puts a human face on the reality of noise for $1.3 million less than the County will spend.
Told with humor, but with a practical focus, this new CD lets listeners experience the noise of various decibel (dB) levels. Will the airport noise truly be "no louder than a vacuum cleaner?" How loud is a vacuum cleaner? Or a blender? Or a lawn mower? Is this level of noise24 hours a day, seven days a
weekacceptable? Is this the ambient noise with which we want to surround ourselvesat work, school and playfor the rest of our lives?
The County wants to demonstrate that the noise will scarcely be noticeable, and is proceeding with their flawed test at El Toro. Fortunately, we have the remedy! Our test can be taken in a living room, family room, patio or spa, and listeners will see that the disruption of jet noiseor an equivalent dB levelis something to be avoided at all costs. Listeners will hear the devastating noise of jets actually recorded at LAX and John Wayne airports and much more. We, at Project 99, are prepared to waive copyright of the material, and we encourage the County Board of Supervisors to make use of this cost-effective method to demonstrate noise to the entire County. Instead of spending the money on a useless noise demonstration where real people are at risk and liabilities are uncertain, the County should reproduce and mail this CD to every household in Orange County.
