Source:  1993 Air Passenger Survey, Ontario International Airport
Prepared for:  City of Los Angeles Department of Airports, August 1994.

Background:  In August and October 1993, J. D. Franz Research interviewed 19,624 departing passengers at ONT.  The large sample size provided very accurate findings.

6.2 million annual passengers (MAP) using ONT  that year.
They divided into the following categories:

TYPE OF PASSENGER - 1993 PERCENT   MAP
Local residents   55%  3.4
Visitors to the Greater Los Angeles area    41 %  2.5
     Subtotal - O&D passengers (a)   96 %  5.9
Passengers connecting through ONT    4 %  0.2
     Total 100 %  6.2 (b)

(a) The term, O&D - "Origin and Destination" passengers, is commonly used to identify those  whose trip originated or ended at a residence, hotel or business in the area.  This excludes "Connecting" passengers who get off one plane and onto another without leaving the airport, or "Transit" passengers who land and take off enroute to another city without deplaning.

(b) rounding error.

The 5.9 million annual O&D passengers traveled to ONT from residences, hotels or businesses in the following counties:

VISITORS AND RESIDENTS (O&D)
POINT OF DEPARTURE FOR ONTARIO -1993
PERCENT MAP
San Bernadino County  31%  1.8
Riverside County  28 %  1.7
Los Angeles County  26 %   1.5
Orange County  14 %   0.8
Ventura County    1 %  0.1
In 1993, Orange County was the origin or destination for 0.8 million Ontario passengers.
